A transformative design assembly under the course guidance of Transdiciplinary Design- Parsons and the visionary mentorship of Lara Penin. This assembly was a platform for ideas, discussions, and creative exploration focusing on work and workers.
The assembly's core work revolved around a comprehensive exploration of key texts and publications, including the illuminating works of Katy Weeks, Miso Kim, and "Bullshit Jobs” fame David Graeber. These materials provided a rich tapestry of insights into the complex realm of work, with a particular emphasis on emotional labor, power dynamics and identity. The roster of panelists was a testament to the assembly's commitment to diversity and depth, ranging from Bhing Navato, a resilient social worker and maid from Singapore, to the esteemed academic figure Esther Kang.Central to the assembly was the overarching theme driving the transdisciplinary course itself: how design can break free from the confines of conventional disciplinary norms and historical design movements. This exploration was grounded in a resolute commitment to address contemporary societal needs for equity, care, and justice.
